Capturing the Blue Domes in Oia, Santorini

Let’s be honest, when you hear the words ‘Santorini’ or ‘Greece’, you think of the blue domes in Oia (pronounced ee-yah). And for good reason, the beautiful contrast of the blue domes and white walls with the stunning views of the sea, are just breathtaking. Not to mention that this is all on the side of a cliff means that almost every view is un-obstructive. Even if you’re not staying in Oia, it’s worth the drive up because seeing these cathedrals, up close in person, is a once in a lifetime experience. It’s hard for me to put this into words, honestly those 4 sentences are all I could do and I know it doesn’t do this view justice. So I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.

For the best photo of the domes, open to all tourists. You’ll have to take the little pathway before this t-shirt shop.

It is with great shame that I admit that we waited in this line (^) in order to capture the following photos (#iregretnothing).  

• Wake up early to beat the crowd
• Try to get above and beside the domes, rather than under them.
• Try to stay at a hotel or AirBnB close to the domes, most of the roads are closed off to the public and are only accessible to guests.
• Don’t wear white, you’ll just blend in to the wall. I recommend wearing either red, for contrast, or light blue to be more subtle.
• Remember, Oia is beautiful and there are other views besides the domes.
