Hotel Review – Kouros Hotel and Suites in Mykonos, Greece

As I was booking my trip to the Greek Isles, Mykonos was on the top of my list. Santorini has the amazing blue dome cathedrals, but Mykonos has the white streets with blue shutters and doors that you see all over Instagram. Also, it’s on the list for the best party cities in Europe. Everything I’ve read says that Mykonos is where you go to party, so don’t expect to spend a lot of time if your room and most blogs said to not worry about your room in Mykonos … well no offense to them but I didn’t take their advise and still wanted to stay in an amazing room with a private pool so I can spend the morning and days relaxing by the water.

The first impression of a hotel is always the staff, they are the first and last things you see when arriving at a hotel. The staff of Kouros is fantastic. When we arrived, instead of checking in at a front desk and staring at a wall, they lead you over to a floor to ceiling window that overlooks the ocean. We were then given champaign and relaxed while the staff took our passports and credit card to complete the checkin process. We were then given a personal tour of the entire property where we got some great insights on what do do in Mykonos.

They say that location is the most important part of real estate, and in Mykonos this theory definitely holds true. When looking at a map of Mykonos remember, ‘the sun rises in the east and sets in the west’. Mykonos is known for their sunsets so you want to stay on the west side of the island, preferably on the coast so you don’t have an obstructive view. This also makes sense when you realize all the beach clubs are on the east side of the island, they literally party until sunrise to watch the sun come up.

I got kind of lucky because I didn’t think about the sunset when I booked this hotel, I thought about the distance to Mykonos Town, where the bulk of the action is and, unless you’re going to specific beach clubs throughout the island, it has everything in one place. The Kouros Hotel and Suites is just north of the town and it’s the perfect little walk (5-10 minutes). We were out of the hustle and bustle of town but close enough to be within walking distance of all the action. It was perfect and quiet. If you don’t want to walk, there is a shuttle that runs every 15 minutes that takes you to and from town.

One of the coolest things about this property was the amazing view from the pool. The exterior is cobblestone and it’s a gorgeous contrast with all the white. The pool areas was amazing and opened up to a bar/restaurant with an incredible view. We ate at the restaurant our last night there and it was amazing, and reasonably priced.

They also have a buffet breakfast from 8-11 am that overlooks the pool.

In Mykonos the style is more of a simple-modern feel. Which actually works well with the entire vibe of Mykonos so it’s perfect. It’s very minimalistic and stunning! Every corner looks amazing!

One of the best thing about the minimalistic style is that nothing looks cluttered, everything is able to have a place tucked in a cubby. They even had this awesome area where you could store luggage in your room so it was out of the way!

Kouros is located in the side of a hill so every room appears to have an amazing ocean view. Since it was my honeymoon, I splurged on a room with a private pool (there are only 2 so book early)! It was simply spectacular. On the day we arrived we had plans to go to lunch once we checked in and we couldn’t even leave the room it was so gorgeous.

One thing that I learned is that hotels in Mykonos Town are around 3x as expensive as Santorini. Hotels a little further away from the town are only around 2x as expensive. So compared to Santorini, Mykonos is expensive. I paid $904 a night for a room with a private infinity pool and an extra $300 (total) in taxes and fees. All that being said, I thought this hotel was worth every penny! I wish it was $200 less per night but it’s still an amazing hotel and the view and location, views, staff, food, etc. is unbeatable.

Keep in mind that I didn’t use my Chase Ultimate Rewards points (blog post coming soon on how I saved $5,000 on my honeymoon) for this property, so I had to pay the $300 in taxes and fees. If you use your Chase points then you just have to pay the tourism fee which is around $3.
