Hotel Review: Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge

Hotel Review: Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge

One thing you’ll quickly learn about Boyfriend and I is that we are not ‘roughing it’ people, we are spoiled brats who can’t go a single day without modern necessities and (of course) wifi. For us, Jasper National Park was the perfect place to get one with nature and experience the outdoors, while also staying at nice hotels.

There are a bunch of campsites, cabins, and hostels for the adventurers to stay in, and luckily there is a Fairmont where people like us can stay. Most people consider Fairmont hotels to be classy, elegant, and a millionaires playground. The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge is the perfect mix of elegance and glamping. The lawn is pristine and sits right on a lake that’s both beautiful and tranquil.

Property/Views

The property is laid out like a campground with little cabins around the entire property. Honestly, this is a really great idea but the way it’s executed was a waisted opportunity. It’s such a great idea to have cute little luxury wood cabins that open up to the lake. However, the “lake view” properties aren’t close to the lake, they are 50-100 yards away and there is a major pedestrian walkway/trail right in front of the large windows that open up to the lake. And of course, people can see right into your room. There should have been cabins that were just 20 feet away from the lake and have  small, private balcony/ porches that open up to the lake. But that’s just my opinion and I know nothing about the hotel business.

The main lobby and grounds are beautiful and really pulls in the woodsy vibe. The pool is just off the main lobby and is heated year round so that’s a huge plus.

The best thing about this hotel, by far, is the lake. It sits on Beauvert Lake and is extremely calm and tranquil. They have various chairs for you can sit on and just relax. You can also rent canoe, bikes, and paddle boats. We would recommend walking the perimeter of the lake, it takes about an hour and the views are amazing.

It would have been nice if the lake and guest rooms were fenced off to keep out the animals. The entire place is covered in poop, which isn’t entirely the hotels fault. But it would be nice to be able to walk around the lake at night without the fear of running into an animal.

Keep in mind, with all the resort fees and taxes is an extra $50 a day.

Room

We stayed in the ‘Standard Fairmont’ room and it was cute and cozy with a huge bathroom. Since we usually travel just the two of us, one of the ways that we save on money is booking a smaller room because we don’t take up that much space. The rooms are tiny and older than other hotels I’ve stayed at, but you can tell that they’ve started to remodel some things (like the carpet). The bathrooms really need to be redone and were a little gross, but you can tel they’ve replaced the toilet in the last 10 years so that’s a plus. One thing to note is there is no AC, but they have a fan. Boyfriend wasn’t happy with this and he was hot at night, but I was perfectly fine.

Restaurants

The Fairmont has 7 restaurants on property but the one that kept popping up on all the ‘must do’ lists for Jasper was Orso Trattoria and rightfully so. It’s an upscale restaurant that has an amazing view of the lake. We we would recommend having 7pm reservations so you can watch the sunset.

It’s also the place where we got engaged!!! I’ll do another blog post on our engagement story but for now I just needed an excuse to post another pic of my ring.
