Hotel Review – Anteliz Suites in Santorini, Greece

To be honest, out of all the hotels we’re staying at in Greece, I was most looking forward to Santorini. I couldn’t wait to see the blue dome churches and the amazing sunsets. So it makes sense that I had a long list of requirements for my Santorini hotel. Shockingly enough I was able to find a hotel that met everything on my checklist. But it’s one thing to look good on paper, but another to have an amazing experience. Keep reading to see how this hotel measures up to an uptight tourist.

Normally, I combine the views and properties category. But the view at Anteliz Suites was so fantastic and breathtaking, it deserved it’s own category. They say the sunset in Oia is the most beautiful in the world. Crowds start forming well before sunrise in order to get a glimpse of it’s amazing view. And, lets be honest, it’s breathtaking and a once in a lifetime experience. You can read my blog post here on how we got a good view. However, our hotel was in Faros and we had a stunningly killer view of both the Mediterranean and the amazing sunset every night. And we could enjoy it from the comfort of our private pool. Which is just a little better than brushing shoulders with a stranger 😉

The property and the pool area was what first drew me to this hotel. It has the white walls and blue accents that you dream of when you think of Greece.

When I go to a different country I always forget that transportation is vastly different. One thing that was super helpful was the hotel arranged out pickup and drop off from the ferry/airport and had someone waiting to us to carry our luggage. This was a huge help and something I didn’t even think about when I was booking our trip!

Have you seen the episode of Friends where Monica and Chandler are on their honeymoon? Long story short, Monica and Chandler are embarking on their honeymoon and there is a couple right in front of them (also on their honeymoon) at the airport and hotel that keeps getting all the free upgrades. Monica and Chandler throw a fit and complain while the other couple says the don’t need the free stuff and just want to be together. Chandler and Monica look at each other and say ‘we need the stuff!’. Honestly, it’s the most relatable thing I’ve ever seen because…. we also need the stuff. And the second I found that we could book our very own private pool at the hotel, I was full speed ahead, I had to have that private infinity pool.

So, I did the one thing that I never thought I’d do and that’s tell the hotel that I’m on my honeymoon in the hopes of getting free stuff… or better yet, a room with the best view. There’s no shame here because this totally paid off!! I booked one of the tree rooms with a private infinity pool. Now, two of those rooms have amazing, un-obstructive views. The other room, the room on the far right, has a 3 foot tall concrete wall that blocks your view. Luckily, we didn’t get put into this room. I even emailed the hotel 8 months out requesting that we not get booked in this room, but it all depends on availability when you check in. However, I still recommend emailing them just so that it’s on your file that you don’t want that room.

One thing that I realized about Santorini in general is that there is no privacy, no matter where your room r pool are located, someone is going to be able to see. I was originally annoyed about this, until I realized it’s just the norm there, it comes with the hills and cliffs so it makes sense.

We had the room o  the far left and from onoce you can see the entire pool.. so no skinny dipping 🙂 also there is a walkway right in front that people come eye level to so they can see you. It’s not super high traffic but again we went during the end of the season.

Anyway, I loved our room and the small patio area with the pool was just perfect.

The worst thing about hotel rooms is the cost. Sometimes, rooms and views are worth the cost and other times you feel like you’re just throwing away money. One thing I will say is that Santorini is way less expensive than Mykonos so that’s a huge plus. I booked this hotel with my Chase Ultimate Rewards points through their portal. In total I spent $375 per night, so $1,125 total, but I also had to pay around $125 in taxes and fees. I have the Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card so my points are worth 1.5x when I redeem them for travel, so that’s a grand total of 83,250 total points for the 3 nights that I spent at this hotel. I thought this was a great deal, especially considering that I got free breakfast and a private pool.
