DIY – Laundry Room Makeover – The Plan

Demo has officially started on the laundry room (checkout photos below)! What better way to start off this project than by showing you the plan/goal ?? I’m so excited to liven up this laundry room by adding some color, storage, and character!

In 2020, I was fortunate enough to be able to work from home 90% of the year 🙂 With that, I was able to accomplish all the DIYs I’ve been wanting to do since we moved in ! It was exhausting and gratifying but I’m still trying to crank out all those blog posts ! So, this year, I’m taking a step back from big house projects and only attempting one this year: the laundry room! This will also be the most extensive room reno that I’ve done, so I’m pacing myself ! Since this will take me so long ( I want to be patient and do it right ) I’ve decided to break it up between multiple blog posts. I’m trying to best to stay up to date with my blog posts but I’m clearly not a professional blogger yet!

To get a taste of what’s to come, here is how I plan on breaking up with laundry room renovation:

To take a deep dive into my brain, here is the plan that I’ve drawn out ! I always like to draw out a project before I start because it makes me do two things that do not come naturally: budget and measuring.

  • Sometimes when I start a new DIY, or even decorate a new space, I get so excited and start buying everything ! Eventually, I lose track of how much I spend and end up spending too much. By drawing everything out and listing out what I’ll need to buy, I can calculate the estimated total cost of a DIY before I even start. This way, I can also decide if a DIY just isn’t worth the money and come up with ways to save.
  • Similarly with measuring, I end up buying things that don’t even fit in the space and end up returning half of what I purchased. So I’m hoping that by measuring beforehand I can save a boat load of time and trips to the store !

Like most people, I need inspiration before I get started on a project.  I need to get excited and dream out the space before I completely demolish it 🙂 Pinterest and Instagram are the best places to get that inspiration and I have waaaaaay too many boards for each room of my house. Here is the Pinterest board for my laundry room and I was able to notice a couple key themes;

  1. I wanted cabinets for storage,
  2. I wanted trendy tiles,
  3. I wanted more counter space!

Luckily, my current, small laundry room has just enough space to accommodate all my wants.

Before pictures are some of my favorites! It’s so easy to forget where you started on a project and before pictures are an away way to show how far you’ve come!

This is a new DIY format that I’m trying out and I have to know: should I break up my blog posts so you get more, or only show the final reveals in one post? Let me know what you think in the comments!
